LegendaryPalestinian freedom fighter Yahiya Sinwar, affectionately called Abu
Ibrahim, was killed on Thursday 17 October 2024 byIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused by International Court of Justice of committing genocide in Gaza.
A Palestinian demonstrator in the Jordanian capital of Amman said one Yahiya Sinwar has sacrificed his life fighting for his land and the legitimate rights brutally denied by Israel and its US-UK,European and Arab dictators. “Remember, there are hundreds of thousands of Yahiya Sinwarsawaiting to continue the historic struggle to liberate their lands from Zionist Jewish usurpers.
As pointed out by former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki, Sinwar did not die in a tunnel shielded by hostages as the typical lying claims say, but rather, he died on the ground in military uniform with his weapon in his hand, defending the land where he was born and martyred.
ThisIsraeli barbarity comes three months after the slaughter of charismatic Palestinian leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran on 31 July 2024 .Since thenYahiya Sinwar took over as the head of Hamas uniting military and political wings of Hamas under one man.
Traditionally there are three major power bases within Hamas: one that’s based outside of Palestine, one in the occupied West Bankand one in Gaza.
In its first public response to the killing of Yahiya, Basem Naim, a member of the Hamas’ political bureau toldthat the organization would not let up on its fight. “Israel believes that killing our leaders means the end of our movement and the struggle of the Palestinian people .He named a series of leaders who had been assassinated by Israel, like founders Sheikh Ahmed Yasmin and Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi, and added: “Hamas each time became stronger and more popular, and these leaders became icon for future generations to continue the journey towards a free Palestine.”
Hamas is a liberation movement led by people looking for freedom and dignity, and this cannot be eliminated,” he said. Hamas, which does not officially recognize Israel has run Gaza since it was elected in 2006.
Whatever people think of Sinwar, he died the death of a Hollywood hero,” wrote one observer on social media. “The last man standing, alone amongst his dead comrades, covered with dust, barely alive, against overwhelming odds, using his one remaining arm to throw the closest weapon he could reach [the piece of wood] towards the mindless drone operated by a coward hiding behind the machine. It’s like ‘Terminator’ but real.
Sinwar told his comrades who urged him to be more cautious, “I just want everyone from the resistance to understand that my life is not more important than anyone in the front line, and real leaders fight in the front, and if I go, we have already selected the successor.” It is well documented among his inner circle that Sinwar didn’t regard his life as being more important “than the lives of the children who die.”
Meanwhile, a glance at an excerpt from a 2018 interview with Sinwar reveals that the Hamas leader was rather more intent on building a Palestinian future than on destroying things: “I am not saying I won’t fight anymore… I am saying that I don’t want war anymore. I want the end of the [Israeli] siege [of Gaza]. You walk to the beach at sunset, and you see all these teenagers on the shore chatting and wondering what the world looks like across the sea. What life looks like. It’s breaking. And should break everybody. I want them free.”
The killing of Sinwar prompted statements of unrestrained support for the Netanyahu government by the leaders of the United States, France, Germany and the UK, who used the occasion to openly endorse Netanyahu’s campaign of extermination and ethnic cleansing against a population of 2.3 million people.
Genocide President Joe Biden called Netanyahu “to congratulate him on the massacre,” the White House said in a statement. Biden issued a statement, perhaps written by a Zionist, saying that “With our intelligence help, the IDF relentlessly pursued Hamas’s leaders, flushing them out of their hiding places and forcing them onto the run… Today, however, proves once again that no terrorists anywhere in the world can escape justice, no matter how long it takes.”
Genocide Biden continued, “Israel has every right to eliminate the leadership and military structure of Hamas.”
Indeed, US complicity in genocide has long entailed assistance in locating Sinwar; back in August, the New York Times reported that the Joe Biden administration had “poured vast resources into trying to find” the Hamas leader, providing “ground-penetrating radar” to Israel while also tasking US spy agencies “with intercepting
Sinwar’s communications.”
Like the September Israeli assassination in Beirut of Hezbollah’s iconic secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah, the killing of Sinwar is no doubt symbolic given the man’s track record of evading Israel’s deadly designs.
One columnist said Biden’s remarks hailing the killing of Sinwar could have been made by a fascist leader. Assassinations and genocide are being embraced by the leaders of “democratic” countries as legitimate policies in a disintegration of democratic forms of government and international law and a descent into ever deeper
levels of criminality.
Biden’s statements were echoed by the leaders of France, Germany, the UK, and Italy, as well as the entire political spectrum in the United States, including Senator Bernie Sanders, who declared Sinwar a “war criminal who masterminded the brutal October 7th attack.”
The statements of support for Israel by the imperialist powers constitute an endorsement of the Gaza genocide as it moves to a critical new phase, in which Israel is making clear that the mass starvation and ethnic cleansing of the population of Gaza is its explicit aim.
Columnist Belén Fernández said theHamas leader’s killing after a year of evading capture will only engender ever greater resistance, which Israel will use to justify more slaughter.
Fortunately for the powers that be in a nation whose very existence is predicated on perpetual slaughter, the Israeli “task” will never be fully completed – at least as long as there are still Palestinians and fellow Arabs committed to resisting Israel’s bloodthirsty efforts.
Over the past 12 months, Sinwar remained in the Gaza Strip and continued to lead military operations against Israel, exhibiting quite a bit more bravery than, say, a certain Israeli leader who prefers to jet around the world complaining about insufficient international support for mass killing.
Naturally, Sinwar has been roundly cast in the Western corporate media as a murderous demon bent on the destruction of Israel – since that’s the narrative that enables Israel to go about completing its “task.”
Sinwar62, Israel’s most wanted man, born in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis refugee camp, was close to Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin, and founded the group’s internal security bodies. He was imprisoned for 23 years by Israel over his alleged role in killing Palestinians suspected of collaborating with the Israeli military.
During his time behind bars, Sinwar read Israeli newspapers and learnt Hebrew, which he said helped him better understand his enemy. In 2011, he was one of the most prominent prisoners freed along with 1,047 other Palestinians in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was abducted by Gaza fighters in a cross-border raid in 2006.
Over the past decade, Sinwar has built up his influence in Gaza, particularly in its military affairs.
